Outstanding sea conditions graced the channel. Foggy and overcast initially, it opened up to clear sunny skies at the islands.
Our first cetacean species of the day was the ever-amazing common dolphin. A large pod of around 750 individuals was found mid-channel. Throughout the day we estimate watching around 2,500 of these friendly fellows.
Our first baleen whale was a teeny tiny fin whale. We first thought this whale was a minke due to its small size. It approached our boat and gave us a quick friendly pass before disappearing into the blue. We then got close looks at 6 blue whales, out of about a dozen in the area. We observed beautiful tail flukes and powerful exhales during another gorgeous day in the Santa Barbara Channel.
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
