Hungry Whales Appear out of NOWHERE!

Writer: Santa Barbara Whale WatchSanta Barbara Whale Watch

A beautiful fall day with a hint of fog! The middle of the channel was packed with dense fog this morning. A small clearing revealed a vortex of birds that led to an active feeding hotspot. Only a few miles off the coast, birds, dolphins, and sea lions had corralled a huge bait ball. With no whales in sight, we were about to pull away to leave before suddenly...

A GIANT LUNGEFEED RIGHT NEXT TO US!

A pair of juvenile whales snuck up on us in the fog and gifted us an awesome encounter. After spending time with the pair we soon shot offshore to find a large group of common dolphins outside of the fog. Further East another humpback was found feeding subsurface.

In total, we watched 3 humpbacks and over 1,500 common dolphins.

Until Next Time,

The SBWW Crew
