Great numbers of blues and humpbacks

What a day! The wind forecast called for some wind in the afternoon, but that didn’t stop us from having an incredible day at sea!

We left the harbor aiming for the blue whale zone we had explored the day before. The 20 mile trek would take us about an hour to get to. Half way through the trip, we found an area with 3 humpbacks in it, as well as 500 common dolphins. We watched as the large whales put up their flukes. As we left another humpback showed itself.

We eventually made it to the blue whale feeding grounds despite some wind that had picked up. Here we watched 5+ giant blue whales, and were even gifted a giant fluke rising from the depths from one of them. To the west, more spouts were visible on the horizon!

On the way home we stopped and watched 4 more humpbacks and another 250 dolphins.

Totals for the day included :

8 humpback whales

5+ blue whales

750 common dolphins.

Another amazing day in the SBC.

Until Next Time,

The SBWW Crew
