A VERY special sighting today, as Captain Devin found FROSTY, the elusive white killer whale! ❄️
Devin found 6 killer whales traveling through the channel while cruising along Santa Cruz Island. Among the group was one of California’s most iconic killer whales “Frosty.” Frosty is thought to have a form of leucism making him appear with a lack of pigment. While Frosty was first spotted in 2019 with an almost slate gray color, years later he appears to be a mostly white killer whale with a black forehead. It’s thought frosty could have an autoimmune disease called the Chediak Higashi Syndrome which has been documented in other killer whales. This was our second killer whale sighting since the new year, and there have been multiple other sightings in the past week, including another sighting of Frosty just a couple of days ago. 2025 is sure off to an incredible start!
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
