Endless life today in the middle of the channel.

The sightings included :
8+ Humpback Whales
500 Short beaked common dolphins
3,000 long beaked common dolphins
We arrived to an area and started picking off common dolphins as we went. First a small group of long beaked, then a big group of ~500 short beaks spread out over a mile. Then the rest of the trip, it was long beaks. We love long beaks as they often feed along side humpback whales, where short beaks will not. Short beaks are typically eating smaller deeper fish like lanternfish, whereas long beaks prefer anchovies like the humpbacks. So, where we find long beaks, we typically find whales! As was the case today with 8+ humpbacks feeding together. One whale breached near us while another threw its tail around. Eventually we caught up with a pair of whales that gave us a great surface lunge right next to us! Check out the video below for a look into today's trip.
Until Next Time,
