"Bruce," a rambunctious dolphin, and an EPIC mugging!

Another action-packed day started off with some foggy conditions! "Fogust" is here and we experienced a little bit of that to start the day. Luckily, within a few miles of leaving the harbor, we fog lifted to beautiful sunny skies and nice sea conditions.

Our first encounter of the day was with an extremely rambunctious common dolphin! This dolphin must have jumped 50 times in the 30 minutes we spent in the area. It was exceedingly gleeful with big leaps in the air!

Soon, we caught up with old friend "Bruce," https://happywhale.com/individual/2468. Bruce is an old timer, first sighted in 1991, and a frequent visitor to the channel. Resembling well known whale "Batman," Bruce has similar damage to his fluke, most likely caused by a prior entanglement. While we haven't seen Bruce in some time, he welcomed us with one big breach!

After hanging out with Bruce, a trio of whales caught our attention. An obvious cow/ calf/ escort, we slowly approached the group. Within seconds of their dive, a CANNON went off next to us. The escort had broken off and took an immense interest in the boat. For the next ~30 minutes, this whale rolled upside down, spyhopped next to us, and treated us to an all-time kind of show! Friendly whales have been a very common occurrence lately. Weekly or sometimes bi-weekly friendlies have been common since March. It is just one of the many incredible encounters we're lucky to enjoy in the channel.

Until Next Time,
