6 Hour Private Tour Yields 5 Humpbacks, beautiful looks at Santa Cruz Island, and High Flying Shorties!

We had a 6 hour private trip today which allowed us to explore the channel. In total we watched :

5 Humpback Whales

100 long beaked common dolphins

500 short beaked common dolphins

Potato Harbor

Painted Cave

We left the dock super early at 7 am with the goal of finding large whales like blues or fins. ALthough its been some time since we have seen blue whales in the channel, it was certainly worth a shot! To start however, we turned east to enjoy the humpbacks. Here we found 5 animals moving east with 100 common dolphins. We enjoyed great looks and nice tail flukes.

We decided to cruise the frontside of Santa Cruz Island looking for blues and fins, when the whales are here, this is a great place to look. He took the boat into potato harbor before running the island drop off.

We rode the island drop off looking for spouts but came up empty handed. We enjoyed beautiful weather and clear skies along the way. We then enjoyed a beautiful visit to painted cave where we were able to fit the boat into the very last chamber. SO COOL!

Outside the cave we found a very enthusiastic group of short beaked common dolphins! They were ecstatic at the speed of our boat and lept out of the air with a joyous presence.
