Another day with whale after whale! 10+ humpbacks and 50 common dolphins in total. The day unfolded as follows.
Captain Adam first happened upon a pair of humpbacks behind the kelp farm. The pair was lazily trending east until suddenly... one of the whales breached completely out of the water! Ahead of us and to the east, 3 more whales made an appearance as birds circled above. They were feeding subsurface. One of the whales was a well-known whale, "LoRyLaney." In the area, a small pod of ~50 dolphins came over to say hello as well.
Further south, another pair of whales was spotted. They made a few close passes and rolled around on their side, trumpet blowing as they went. Even further south, we found another three whales. Among the group, 11-year-old "Black Rakes," a Santa Barbara local made an appearance.
We sped back to the harbor before the wind picked up, capping off another amazing day in the ol' SBC.
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
