What a gorgeous day in the SB Channel, sightings today included 15+ humpback whales and over 4,000 common dolphins.
It was overcast the majority of the day until the last 30 minutes of the trip. A light bump was on the surface but we slowly paraded over most of it. Close to the dome, an explosion of life occurred. We first watched 500 or so dolphins before humpbacks made themselves present. We watched a trio, including a cow/ calf pair. The calf is one we've been watching since mid-May and has a very distinctive skin disease/ skin lesions on it (see photo below). We got some looks at two nearby juveniles before joining a group of 4 in a competitive group. They made a few close passes before continuing on. We then found a huge group of an estimated 3,500 dolphins. Nearby 3 more whales were watched, They became friendly with the boat and pec slapped right next to us. Nearby another trio was watched in the distance before we sped home, our whale-hungry appetite filled to the brim.
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
