Unforecasted south east wind in the morning backed off to a beautiful day by the afternoon! The day unfolded as follows.
Our morning trip enjoyed ~1,000 dolphins in the middle of the channel. Birdnados were everywhere as feeding frenzies lit up the sky! Nearby one of the baitballs, a single adult humpback made itself known with huge tail flukes.
We opted for eastern seas on the second trip which certainly paid off! Out of 6 humpbacks in the area, an active calf with its sleepy mom paid us an incredible visit. The calf breached again and again as the eastern end of Santa Cruz Island illuminated our backdrop. The calf eventually slowed down to chin slaps that also delighted our passengers. ~2,000 dolphins were also in this area.
