Stunning Humpback Breachfest!

Another stunning day in the channel with heaps of wildlife! The feeding season is off to a nice start, totals for the day include : 5 humpbacks, 500 common dolphins, and 15 Dall's porpoises.

We started the day with glassy seas to the east. Here we found a nice big group of common dolphins. They paraded around the boat as they trended east. Its so nice to have them back in the channel after their typical winter leave of absence.

Way to the west, we found a nice group of humpback whales. First three adults appeared, spouting and fluking around us. Then, in the distance, two more whales began flying out of the water! We sped over to them, and the action continued. We enjoyed as both whales flew out of the water and threw their giant pec fins in the air. What a sight to see, and a warm welcome back to the channel! Soon, a very interesting encounter occurred. The whales began rolling around with one another as 15 Dall's porpoises surrounded them. This is a really unique encounter we haven't seen before, as the porpoise circled the whales for minutes on end.

Until Next Time,

The SBWW Crew
