Many humpbacks and a blue shark in Perfect Seas

Another sensational winter day complete with 10+ humpback whales in darling seas.

Not a breath of wind greeted us in the channel today. Close to Santa Cruz Island, we began seeing humpback whales in pairs and trios. The first whale we encountered was a small juvenile 1/4 mile away from a pair of adults. The adults began to kelp as the western end of Santa Cruz Island graced the background of our scene. Here, a small blue shark also approached the boat. Further west, another trio made themselves known and, again, began to kelp. A single whale popped up close to us twice and seemed to have a friendly yet standoffish presence. More whales made their presence known to the south as they played with a few california sea lions. The last whales we saw were mid-island and were a small pair of juveniles. We sped home at 30 knots in the stunning Santa Barbara Channel.

Until Next Time,

The SBWW Crew
