Four Cetacean Species!

We enjoyed a simply beautiful spring day with lots of marine diversity!
We started out the morning with a close look at 2 minke whales, The pair displayed their usual shy antics, so we opted to give them space and look for marine life elsewhere. We soon came across a very friendly and active group of offshore bottlenose dolphins. In the group were two young calves, both of differing ages. One was a brand-new newborn with fetal folds visible on the side of its body. The other, a boisterous young individual, was likely a few months old. It would rocket out of the water only to let gravity do its job and fall on its belly. Super cute.
We soon encountered a group of 15 or so Dall's porpoises who decided to do some bow riding! Our guests got great looks at these fast cetaceans as they zipped around our vessel.
Next came the humpbacks. The first whale we found was pretty shy, so we let it be for greener pastures. A breach in the distance soon caught our eye, it belonged to one of 4 whales in a group. They seemed to be displaying some sort of social behavior, rolling around, trumpet blowing, and chasing each other around. All showed tail flukes as we enjoyed the large size and character of these mighty whales. More spouts were seen in the distance as we sped our way back to the harbor.
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
