Another Day with plenty of humpbacks | 6+ with an awesome cow/ calf pair

Writer: Santa Barbara Whale WatchSanta Barbara Whale Watch

Another day with friends lead us to Santa Cruz Island, the largest of the channel islands chain. Here we found 4 humpback whales cruising the island drop off looking for a bite to eat. The wind picked up a bit offshore so we tucked into Fry's Harbor where we found a heap of Velella Velellas! After heading back towards Santa Barbara Harbor, we took a stop at one of our favorite hot spots for whales. Here, we found 2 more humpbacks, this time a cow and her newborn calf. We witnessed one lunge feed from the mom and enjoyed playful visits from the calf as it rolled around at the surface. It was another beautiful outing in the Santa Barbara Channel.

Until next time,
