A Great WHITE SHARK Encounter!

Writer: Santa Barbara Whale WatchSanta Barbara Whale Watch

The whales evaded us today, but we found something much rarer... a GIANT GREAT WHITE SHARK feeding on an elephant seal carcass!

Captain Adam found this large white shark feeding on a deceased elephant seal off the coast of Gaviota. At least 15 feet long this was the largest white shark Adam had ever seen. It slowly circled the carcass taking chomps out of the dead seal before disappearing for ~10 minutes, It then reappeared to continue feeding. It was an incredibly raw and real look into the circle of life that unfolded before our very eyes.

Until Next Time,
